The Louisville Science Center Presents:

Ladysmith Black Mambazo

with special guest musicians,
The Parker Boyd Project

Experience the all-consuming a capella sound and rhythms of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the instrumental melodies of The Parker Boyd Project, and a recpetion featuring beverages with a tasting of Amarula, a Brown-Forman brand.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a chorus from South Africa that is noted for singing a cappella isicathamiya and mbube music. The group was formed as a result of a dream that Joseph Shabalala had in 1964, in which he heard particular harmonies. He recruited friends and family to form the group, and taught them the harmonies he had heard. Although they had been recognized as an isicathamiya group in 1964, they had been singing together since the early 1950s. The group has become a mobile academy, teaching people about South Africa and its culture.

New to the Louisville music scene, The Parker Boyd Project combines the skill and experience of a veteran percussionist with the rising talent of a rising young musician. With eight mallets and four hands, this duo produces a big sound rich in melody and harmony, interplay and counterpoint. Playing marimba, vibes, and xylophone, Parker and Boyd perform an eclectic mix of music from classical to contemporary.
