Since 2001, Kentucky science heroes have been the focus in the Breakthrough Gallery.

In this gallery of The World Within Us, visitors learn about science careers and cutting edge research performed by real-life regional scientists through informative text panels and related interactive exhibits. Every two years, the exhibit changes to feature three new KY - H.E.R.O.S. featured scientists. 

The third installment currently highlights our 2005 - 2007 KY - H.E.R.O.S. featured scientists:

  from the University of Louisville Dental School
  Research Area: Gum disease and its relation to systemic disease
• Jody Clasey, Ph.D. of the University of Kentucky and Kent Adams, Ph.D. of the University of Louisville
  Research Area: Obesity and its relation to physical inactivity
• Henry Kaplan, M.D.
  of the Kentucky Lions Eye Center at the University of Louisville
  Research Area: Macular degeneration and its relations to blindness
