2011 Youth Science Summit

Hypothesis:  The world is changing and today's youth boast the big voices and big ideas that create tomorrow's leaders. 

Command the future at the 2011 Youth Science Summit, hosted by the Science Center's 2011 Youth Infusion Board.  Dialogue on hot science topics, interact with leading professionals, and advocate for advancement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). 

Every generation needs a new revolution: what will you do to STEMulate change?

Cost: $10 per student, ages 13-18

What’s included: Each student ticket includes a t-shirt; light breakfast; lunch; Youth Science Summit programming and the “Do Science” Labs; all-day admission to the Science Center and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition; and access to the 5 p.m. IMAX film, Roar: Lions of the Kalahari. The event ends at 5pm; the Science Center will close at 9pm on Saturday, June 18.

Attire: Casual; closed-toe shoes recommended for participation in planned activities

Parents/Guardians: There’s a session for you just before pick-up time! Join Science Center staff at 4pm to learn more about the Youth Science Summit activities, the Louisville Regional Science Fair and meet with representatives from colleges and universities.

During the Hot Topics sessions, students will join representatives from the American Red Cross Louisville Area Chapter to discuss natural disaster response and preparedness.

Do Science!
Have you ever wanted to learn more about robot assisted surgery or create a robotic “monster?” Perhaps you’d prefer to learn how to tie a surgical knot or extract DNA from your own cheek cells? The “Do Science” labs offered during the 2011 Youth Science Summit will focus on Biomedicine and Robotics. Event participants will engage in 10 different hands-on stations that feature real-world techniques found in engineering and medical laboratories throughout the world. Students will make observations, record data, and engage in science on an advanced level… their level! 

Representatives from the following Colleges/Universities will attend the Parent/Guardian Session, which will take place at 4pm just prior to the end of the Youth Science Summit:

  • University of Kentucky
