  • What's the Matter?
Come and join us as we journey through the exciting world of atoms, elements and matter. Why do some forms of matter shrink when you apply heat and expand when you apply cold temperatures?

  • Bounce
Why don't we use a football to play basketball or bowl with a baseball? Discover the answers to these questions about the physics of sports balls and the energy that is associated with them.

  • Lights Out
What makes a glow-stick glow and makes your laundry detergent "whiter than white"? Discover what happens when we turn off the lights and turn on the science. Join us as we explore science in the dark!

Tech Forum Theatre
On the Science Center's second floor in THE WORLD WE CREATE.

  • SlamSlam
Ever watch a football player get tackled and think, "Ouch! That's got to hurt"? Come discover how science and safety are combined to protect athletes from serious injury. Learn all about collision and energy.

  • StarStation One™
    Astronauts on the Job

Come learn about some of the ways astronauts work inside and outside the International Space Station. Learn hands-on about adapting to a microgravity environment!

Just as the International Space Station is a unique multi-national venture, so is StarStation One" at the Louisville Science Center! The Science Center is home to the only StarStation One" program in the state of Kentucky and one of only 60 similar programs across the U.S. We offer a wide range of activities and demonstrations daily that reflect current research aboard the International Space Station.

    Inquiry Station Activities
You'll see Science Center staff throughout the facility each day, helping you figure out how and why things happen and predict what may happen next. Dive into these creative, inquiry-based science activities with both hands and both sides of your brain.

BioLabBioLab
On the Science Center's third floor in THE WORLD WITHIN US.

  • Bacteria Battles
Ever been sick? Discover how germs are spread and how they can dodge our first line of defenses. We use special lights to see where microscopic organisms might hide on your hands. Become skilled at the best techniques to guard your health.

  • The Good, Bad & Ugly
Touch and observe for yourself the dramatic differences in appearance and function between healthy lungs and lungs affected by long-term smoking. Examine two sets of lungs: one healthy set and one that's smoked a pack of cigarettes a day for 20 years. Don't worry! These are preserved pig lungs and the "smoker's" lungs are simulated. Don't miss it!

  • Have a Heart
That's right. We have one waiting for you! In this real laboratory experience, you'll be able follow how blood flows through the pathways of the heart. Get the scoop on how our body acquires what it needs to survive... oxygen!

  • Antibiotics in Action
Observe select bacteria growing in the presence of various antibiotics. Help decide if all antibiotics can be used to treat any given bacterial infection.

  • Living in Space
Living in space is a bit different than living on Earth. Even the simplest tasks become quite different in microgravity. Learn hands-on how astronauts adapt to living in that environment.
