Did You Know..?

The Louisville Science Center is the State Science Center of Kentucky.

Since 1977, the Science Center has served over 7 million people, bringing science in a fun and fresh way to new audiences from Louisville, the state of Kentucky, southern Indiana and the region.

The Louisville Science Center ranks as the #1 field trip destination in Kentucky, in volume of students served.

Since 1977, the Science Center has served over 1.5 million students from nearly every county in the state.

During the 2001-02 school year, we served over 170,000 students and teachers on field trips.

The Louisville Science Center has hosted 45 different IMAX® films since the IMAX Theatre opened in 1988, taking over 3 million people to places they've never been before!

Since 1988, 638,295 children age 7 and under have developed important skills for life in KidZone (formerly called KidSpace).

Since 1977, the Louisville Science Center has hosted more than 60 different temporary exhibits.

Since 1988, 45,373 people from 41 Kentucky counties have participated in a Midnight Magic Camp-in, an overnight program designed to immerse young "campers" in science via hands-on labs, interactive exhibits and IMAX® films.

Since 1977, the Science Center has served close to 70,000 students through a variety of outreach programs such as the innovative LabWorks: Chemistry to Go!, a program that brings hands-on science to area schools.

Since 1992, when the annual Teacher Institute began, over 1,827 teachers from 45 Kentucky counties have participated in our 10-day long set of workshops designed to constructively teach science through activities that equip teachers with hands-on classroom activities and curriculum-based knowledge.

Since the state version of THE WORLD WE CREATE Traveling Exhibit began touring in January 2000, it has visited 17 Kentucky communities and reached 41,771 people, helping rural Kentucky communities explore the creative thinking that makes scientific advancements possible. Since September 2000, the nationally touring exhibit has reached 139,565 people.

The Louisville Science Center offers hour-long Distance Learning programs to students and teachers around the state via the Kentucky TeleLinking Network (KTLN). Since the program began in 1995, the Science Center has reached 9,500 students and teachers from 21 Kentucky counties and across the country.

Last year, the Science Center's Distance Learning programs reached 3,739 students and teachers across the state. Links also were conducted outside the state, reaching students in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, New York and California.

Since 1977, volunteers have donated over 100,000 hours of their time to keep the Science Center running smoothly.
